Seriously, who keeps giving these people money to make these TV shows?
Sure, ok, if I were a deaf, blind mute who had just been living in a cave in Nowherekistan and just returned to full cognitive ability recently, I might possibly enjoy this show.
But because I'm 38 years old and have been exposed to a fair amount of pop- and not so pop-culture in these last 38 years, like most people in the Western world, the show has absolutely no merit at all.
What's the point stomping over trodden ground, using the same story and same stereotypes and same shit over and over again?
This makes me hate reality TV shows even more. Because we're so starved for anything not so incredibly vile and lame, we praise mediocrity as if it's the second coming.
I am just so disappointed after United States of Tara - a rich, unusual, funny, and touching series.

Piracy and Advertising
I've been thinking about this a lot lately, as I'm downloading a lot of TV shows because Australian TV sucks. When they DO show new content that isn't "reality" shit, they'll fuck up the programming with too many adverts and worse, delay or cut the show due to sports or reality shows!
Now, I would quite happily watch HULU with all it's advertising and such, but it's blocked here. And I'd buy from iTunes if the shows were able to be viewed on my PS3. I'd pay for them on my PS3 or Xbox, but again, the service is blocked.
But one of the biggest arguments against downloading TV shows is the loss of advertising revenue networks face.
But hang on a second.
An average person in the US will see between 600-625 adverts (potential exposures as they call them) per day from all media sources including radio, billboards and the like, with about 400 coming from TV over the 4 hour TV watching average [src] . I'm fairly certain it's similar in Australia.
That means I've seen over 4 million adverts in my life time (assuming I watched an average of 4 hours of TV since I was allowed to watch TV at age 5).
Haven't I paid enough for this content already?
Isn't it enough when people ask me what I'd like to drink at a restaurant I say "coke" without thinking*? Or I know there's a glass and a half of full cream dairy milk in cadburys? Or that Beans Means Heinz?
*this is assuming it's a "dry" restaurant... otherwise it's "beer".

Who Do You Think You Are?
I've been watching SBS's Who Do You Think You Are?
It's a show that traces one UK celebrity's family history per episode.
It's so amazing what some of these people - nearly all of whom are as British as beans on toast - Bill Oddy, Stephen Fry, Jeremy Clarkson - have in their family history.
Stephen Fry had one side of his family wiped out by the Germans.
Last night they had Gurinder Chadha, the woman who directed "Bend It Like Beckham" and she's Indian, but from Kenya. Although wealthy, her family were in refugee camps after the separation of Pakistan from India. Her brother's sister died fleeing Pakistan.
These things were happening only 50 - 60 years ago.
Over a million people were dispossessed when India and Pakistan split. A Million people who had family, friends, history, land and homes told to piss off somewhere else. And I don't need to mention the Holocaust. Even if it's exaggerated the amounts of people killed, it's still a terrible waste.
And it happens over and over and over again all over the world.
This is why I get so upset with people who are racist and blame immigrants for everything and anything - I've got a sense of home, a sense of history. Sure, my knowledge of it only goes back 3 generations, but that's 3 generations of people who've lived in the one place not having to deal with being told we had to move or be killed because we prayed to the wrong god, or had the wrong coloured skin.

Save the Glass House
Personally I'm not a great fan of the Glass House, but I find it incredibly strange thatthe ABC axed it given the amount of viewers it attracted week after week.
In the current government climate, I think shows that send up news, politicians and celebrities is important.
This show was NOT a news program, so it doesn't need to be "balanced or unbiased".
If you think it's unfair that the Glass House has been taken off air, there's a petition online to save it...
